If elected, what do you hope to accomplish during your term in office?

1. Put sustainability principles into action so that we save our planet. From waste reduction to water conservation to economic development, we must integrate sustainability principles into every aspect of municipal government, and also in the larger community. We must think about the next generation and the next century, not just next year, or the next election. In business or in government, we must learn to evaluate all we do on the triple-bottom line- economic, environmental, and cultural.
   
   
2. Invest in Olympia 's core (downtown!) to create a more vibrant and diverse economy, and foster an atmosphere of ‘livability', so that housing can add the needed densities into downtown, and help us mitigate and manage growth in the UGA and county.
   
   
3. Create a more effective city government, using performance based budgeting, and focusing on ‘value' as a concept. ‘Value' is not the cheapest government, nor the most expensive, but rather the one that best meets the needs of the community, at the best price. There is a relationship between price and value, but cost is not the ONLY part of creating ‘value' to our customers, the citizens of Olympia.
   
   
4. Earn our star on the map. As a state capital, Olympia has special visibility, and special opportunities to be a leader among municipalities. And as they would say in comic books, ‘With such power comes great responsibility' … we must ensure the example we set is that of a successful, vibrant, sustainable, livable community.
